What should I expect?

If you've never been to counseling before, this is the place to be! At Redeeming Grace, once you have contacted us for services, you will get a number of forms to fill out. These forms help us get to know you a little bit and begin putting a plan in place before you even arrive for your first session!

The first session is your intake session and typically looks a little bit different than the ones that follow. In the intake session, it's all about getting to know you! Oftentimes, that means asking about certain things on the intake form that will help us develop a Diagnostic Assessment and Treatment Plan. The goal by the end of the first session is to be able to map out what you're hoping to accomplish during your time here- such as goals you want to set for yourself, skill building, or processing. We then take that information and develop a plan for you.

Subsequent sessions, depending on what you are coming to counseling for, will involve, of course, talking through things with a therapist, but often come with interactive parts too. Oftentimes, therapists will use worksheets or give a client things to work on between sessions. At Redeeming Grace, we believe that the real work happens between the sessions! It is our hope that we can be a guide for you during this process!

Sessions last 60 minutes, and often at the end of the session, you will schedule the next meeting with your therapist. What you say in a session is confidential- the information doesn't get shared with anyone; there are several exceptions to that which are explained in the intake session.

The number of sessions and how often you meet with a counselor really depends on the person. Sometimes, it may be just a couple of sessions. For others, it is a longer period of time. No matter the number or frequency, we are dedicated to serving you and helping you become the best version of you!
